Designing for FDM 3D printing can be tricky, and 3D printing does have it’s limitations. However, my experience will help guide you through the process, offer alternatives, or tweak your design ideas to suit.
I work predominantly with ABS plastics when printing functional parts, but can produce prototypes in PLA if required.
ABS has a glass transition temperature of around 105 °C which is often adequate for hot car interiors and parts of an engine bay not subject to high temperatures. Whilst parts are printed at a high enough definition not to need much post-processing, it is possible to sand and paint ABS to really make your part unique.
